Sesuai dengan namanya, kita dapat mengetahui ini adalah bus yang bermain di kelas 9 ton dengan power mesin 170 hp. Hal yang menarik ketika BusNesia membaca sebuah forum dunia otomotif Autoforum dan dalam forum tersebut disebutkan kalau bus MB 917 ini adalah produk Daimler dan Fuso Canter. In the same Daimler stable as the FUSO Canter Bus is the new Mercedes-Benz OF 917 RF, a raised-floor bus chassis with a front-mounted 170hp engine with a 9-ton Gross Vehicle Weight. The MidiBus chassis will be equipped with 22 to 40-seater bus bodies, ideal for the commuter and coach segments. Produced at the Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) plant in the south eastern Indian city of Chennai, Mercedes-Benz says its OF 917 RF bus chassis was built not only to be comfortable for passengers, but also for the driver.

Medium bus Mercedes Benz 917 E3 ini menggunakan mesin baru type 4D34i twin cams, 4 valves per silinder, 4 silinder diesel engine 6-speed bertenaga 170hp.

Mesin 4D34i inline diesel dengan electronic diesel control. Diesel common rail injection bertekanan 1600 bar. Medium bus MB 917 E3 ini menggunakan exhaust brake dengan system mekanis katup ganda di inlet dan exhaust.

Dilengkapi juga dengan fitur stabilisers untuk depan belakang. Rem sistem ABS, EBD dan rem cakram.
